Astrology Herbs for every sign

Herbs have a prominent place in the history of mankind, but not limited to therapeutic and cosmetic level. On the contrary, the ancient peoples worshiped herbs, gave them magical properties and linked them with many legends and of course deities.

Astrology, a study which has a long history also has a unique relationship with the herbs. In fact, Hippocrates treatments combined the therapeutic use of herbs, with the phases of the moon and the sun’s position in the constellations of the zodiac! From the 3rd millennium BC people were aware of the celestial cycle and created sanctuaries and sanatoriums in geographical locations associated with the constellations by season.

Studying astrology, we observe that each sign is related to a planet (including the moon) and each planet expresses a deity of ancient times and the characteristics that where given. Each zodiac sign, therefore, has some favorite herbs that operate better for every sign in both physical and psychological level!

So which herbs correspond to each sign and why:

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Aries is a fire sign, the first of the zodiac, ruled by Aris. The color expressing Aries could not be other than scarlet, while the sensitive parts of the body are the head, the eyes and the face. Mythological, the constellation is associated to the golden ram carrying Frixos and Elli. Herbs that fit perfectly in Aries diet are spicy, intense, prickly, even bitter. Herbs favoring Aries are those that purify the blood and promote circulation.

Essential oils: frankincense, rosemary, marjoram, black pepper.

Herbs & Spices: black pepper, coriander, cayenne pepper, basil, nettle, wormwood, burdock, red clover, wormwood, St. John’s wort, hops, marjoram, thistle.

Fruits and Vegetables: horseradish, onion, garlic, leek, red peppers, chives, radishes.

Flowers: tulip, amaryllis, honeysuckle.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus is an earth sign ruled by Venus, goddess of love and beauty, and color expressing a Taurus pink. Mythological, Taurus is connected with one of the many forms that Jupiter had taken. The herbs and plants associated with Taurus are sweet. The sign is associated with the neck, ears and esophagus. So the herbs that are great for Taurus are softening, and anti-inflammatory.

Essential oils: ylang-ylang, patchouli, rose.

Spices & herbs: mint, thyme, cardamom, licorice, evening primrose, soapwort, fenugreek, mallow, lavender, dandelion, sage, verbena, angelica.

Fruits and Vegetables: Spinach, peas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, artichoke, grape, apple, fig, apricot, pomegranate, strawberry.

Flowers: lilac, lily, poppy.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Gemini is an air sign ruled by Hermes, god of communication, intelligence, constant changes and trade, with the color yellow. The legend associated with the constellation is the Dioscuri, Castor & Pollux. The herbs and plants associated with Gemini are combined and in variety. The sign is associated with the lungs, shoulders and upper limbs. So herbs favoring Gemini are expectorant and tonic of the respiratory system and the concentration!

Essential oils and essences: basil, grapefruit, neroli.

Spices & herbs: dill, licorice, fennel, lemongrass, parsley, thyme, horehound, lobelia, valerian, lemon balm.

Fruits and Vegetables: Endive, carrots, oats.

Flowers: rose, lavender.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Cancer is a water sign commanded by the changeable moon and the colors that express this sign is white and all the shades of gray. The constellation is linked mythologically with another feat of Hercules. Parts of the body associated with this sign are the stomach, the liver and the chest. Due to the delicate nature of the sign, herbs that fit are soft, offering hydration in the body and proper digestion.

Essential oils and essences: lavender, chamomile, juniper.

Spices & herbs: cardamom, bay leaf, chamomile, sage, aloe vera, evening primrose, Melissa, agrimonio, verbena.

Fruits and vegetables: lemon, blueberry, mushrooms, turnips, sweet potato, melon, watermelon, pumpkin, seaweed, banana, apple, pear.

Flowers: acanthus, delphinium.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Leo, a fire sign, mythologically associated with the Nemean lion, commanded the sun. Sunlight connects lion with heart, back and spine, and the colors are all shades of orange and gold. Herbs that are connected have bright color and large flowers, and of course, related to the circulation and blood pressure.

Essential oils and essences: camphor, garlic, rosemary, lemon.

Spices & herbs: dill, fennel, anise, cinnamon, ginger, lemon balm, tarragon, rue, chamomile, effrazia, borage, parsley, hawthorn, leonouros.

Fruits and Vegetables: corn, Swiss chard, pineapple, orange, grapefruit, olive, coconut.

Flowers: calendula, sunflower.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

The virgo is an earth sign of the most landed, with constellation the largest of the zodiac circle representing mythologically Persephone. The planet that governs the sign is Hermes, while the colors that express it are all earthy like beige, brown and green. The body parts associated with virgo are the digestive and nervous system with frequent sensitivities. Herbs with a high content of potasium are beneficial to this sign.

Essential oils and spirits: sage, chamomile, thyme.

Spices & herbs: dill, fennel, Black Horehound, lavender, marjoram, scutellaria, raspberry (leaves and root), plantain, St John’s wort, valerian, fenugreek, sage.

Fruits and Vegetables: barley, oats, rye, wheat, millet.

Flowers: morning glory, all small flowers, daisies.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Libra, the sign of Aphrodite, is the only constellation associated with an object, and it is considered for some that it symbolizes Nemesis, while for others Love and Soul. The colors expressing libra are the pastel shades of blue and green, while the body parts associated with libra are the kidneys, the adrenal glands, the waist and the buttocks. Herbs that benefit the body of a libra have to do with healthy kidney function mainly.

Essential oils and spirits: incense, raspberry, melissa.

Spices & herbs: peppermint, mint, vanilla, melissa, ivy, bergamot, watercress, cardamom, chamomile, eucalyptus.

Fruits and Vegetables: eggplant, sweet potato, artichoke, pomegranate, apricot, apple, fig, plum, grape, strawberry.

Flowers: freesia, gladiolus, hydrangea.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

The scorpion, a sign of water governed by both Mars and Pluto, is connected mythologically with Orion. With intense influences from Pluto’s dark nature, the colors that express scorpio are black and burgundy, while the body parts associated with scorpion are the genitals. Herbs that fit a scorpion are usually rare, while most are roots. Useful herbs for a scorpion are those that benefit the reproductive system and hormone regulators.

Essential oils and spirits: pennyroyal, patchouli, jasmine.

Spices & herbs: anise, black pepper, coffee, ginger, sesame, coriander, artemisia, aloe, ginseng, serenoa, pennyroyal, raspberry leaves, gentian.

Fruits and Vegetables: Mushroom, peppers, onions, chives, garlic.

Flowers: chrysanthemum, anemone, peony.

Sagittarius (22 November – 21 December)

The sagittarius is the last of the four zodiac signs of fire, governed by Jupiter. The constellation was dedicated to Centaur Chiron, while the colors expressing the sign are blue and purple. The body parts associated with sagittarius are the liver, the thighs and the hips. Herbs that fit a sagittarius have large bright flowers, high in silicon and support the healthy functioning of the liver.

Essential oils and spirits: bergamot, geranium, rosemary.

Spices & herbs: nutmeg, saffron, carnation, dandelion, sage, anise, mint.

Fruits and Vegetables: asparagus, raspberry, rhubarb, beetroot, tomato, turnip.

Flowers: carnations, agrampole, narcissus.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

The last sign of the earth, governed by the conservative Saturn, prefers the slow-growing woody herbs, which have no flowers. The myth of the constellation is about the god Panna. The colors of the capricorn are brown, gray and black, while the body parts that are connected are bones, knees and joints. The highly beneficial herbs for a capricorn are full of calcium to protect the bones and joints.

Essential oils and spirits: eucalyptus, ginger, patchouli.

Spices & herbs: cayenne, carnation, nutmeg, rosemary, green tea, bergamot, tarragon, cumin, chamomile, marjoram, comfrey, kava kava, thyme.

Fruits and Vegetables: spinach, mushrooms, beets, barley, rye.

Flowers: henbane, African violet.

Aquarius (20 January – 18 February)

The last of the signs of the air, the eccentric Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, while the colors that express it are ethereal, like turquoise blue and silver. The myth of the constellation of aquarius refers to a beautiful young man, Ganymede whom Zeus made immortal, the oinochoe of the gods. The body parts associated with Aquarius are shins, ankles and circulatory system. Herbs should favor the healthy functioning of the circulatory system, while the herbs that match aquarius are rare and thrive near water.

Essential oils and spirits: bitter almond, lemon, peppermint, neroli.

Spices & herbs: star anise, asphodel, sage, comfrey, valerian, chamomile, passion flower, hops, aloe, kava kava, lavender, lemon verbena, hyssop.

Fruits and Vegetables: spinach, beets, rye, barley.

Flowers: orchid, cress.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Pisces is a double-natured water sign, ruled by Poseidon the god of water and Jupiter. The myth behind the constellation is one of the oldest, with Aphrodite and Cupid being transformed into fish to be saved by the Titan Hurricane. The colors that express this sign are purple, lilac and the colors of the sea, while the sensitive parts of pisces are the legs and the immune system. Ideal are the herbs that strengthen the immune system.

Essential oils and essences: tea tree, sandalwood, rose.

Spices & herbs: allspice, cardamom, vanilla, euphrasia, lemon verbena, basil, ehinacea, marjoram.

Fruits and vegetables: tomatoes, algae, beets.

Flowers: lily of the valley, wisteria.

Astrology, however misunderstood, is a very complex study, which has been linked from antiquity to health and herbs, and there is also a specialized study of medical astrology. It concerns the composite map of a person, where one can distinguish the parts of the body and the sensitivities that arise depending on the planetary positions in zodiacs and houses, but also the unfavorable or harmonic planetary faces that arise at the moment of birth and indicate the predisposition of the individual . Each zodiac expresses a part of the body and each planet a property! For those who have deepened in astrology, they will already know that the positions of the planets and especially the phases of the moon play an important role in gardening, meteorology, fishing and even grooming!
